Andrew Thorne

Andrew Thorne

Andrew Thorne is a partner in the firm. Andrew’s education includes a Bachelor of Business Administration, a Certificate in Advanced Accounting from the Society of Management Accountants and a Bachelor of Laws. His experience includes a one-year clerkship at the Tax Court of Canada in Ottawa.

His areas of practice include corporate, commercial and tax matters, wills and estate planning and residential and commercial real estate

Andrew has an interest in building development and has designed, developed and built, as the general contractor, several buildings over the last few years, including the firm's Fort McMurray office.  

His latest construction is a small experimental satellite office designed for the lawyers of the firm who want to get away occasionally during working hours.  It is located near a partner summer home property so as to take advantage of the latest telecommunication technologies and a geographically diverse commercial client base.

In his spare time, Andrew holds the position of Director of several non-profit organizations. He is currently the Chair of the Board of the Engstrom Society. The Engstrom Society holds a large parcel of land used for year-round youth camping.

Over the next several years the intention of the Engstrom Society is to develop the camp into a much larger operation so as to provide the Fort McMurray area with a more comprehensive youth camping facility. Andrew is currently assisting in the planning and developement of the new camp.

He has also taught a course entitled "Business Law in Canada" at Keyano College.

Andrew was one of the Chairs of the 45th Annual Refresher Course at the Fairmont Chateau in Lake Louise, Alberta, for the Legal Education Society of Alberta. The topic presented was Taxation and Real Estate.

Andrew has chaired several other seminars of the Legal Education Society of Alberta. He has also written papers entitled "New Home Construction", "Trust Conditions and Undertakings", and "The Application of Ethics in a Real Estate Practice" and co-written a paper entitled "The Role of the Legal Assistant" for the Legal Education Society of Alberta.

Andrew has also in the past been a Learning Group Facilitator for the Legal Education Society of Alberta's Bar Admission Program.
